I'm Doing It. No More Birth Control Pill.

Wow, it's been a long time since I posted. I'm still in school (graduate in my May) and my business, Brija Cosmetics, has kept me quite busy. You can also find me on my Youtube channel twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays.

If you haven't seen my recent diet update, you can watch it here. Basically last month I started having adverse effects to soy, and I asked for some advice on birth control methods. I have been on the birth control pill for 6 years, and with every fiber of my being I hate being on it, especially because in the last year I have made such strides in my health and wellbeing.

In April of 2013, I developed Seborrheic Dermatitis and it has consumed my life since then. In September of 2013, I decided to go gluten and dairy free in order to try to help my dermatitis. It did go away, but any time I eat gluten or dairy, it comes back. And now soy. I really truly think the birth control pill did this to my body, and that's why I've decided I'm officially going off of the pill. I'm almost in tears typing this because I'm so happy. The idea that I might not have to be so restricted in my diet anymore, and that my dermatitis might go away, literally makes me want to burst into tears. I'm so nervous, but incredibly excited.

I know in my video I mentioned I was scared to try the temperature tracking method. However, some amazing person mentioned the Lady Comp to me. Essentially it is a machine with a thermometer that tracks your temperature and gives you a green, yellow, or red light. Green means you're good to go and have sex, and yellow and red means caution or no. I've researched it for hours and talked with Aaron and my mom. And it's a go. It's crazy expensive, but I know it will be worth it. I'm looking forward to being able to track my temperature and get to know my cycle better.

I've also purchased the book that many recommended, Taking Charge of Your Fertility. I finally have the time to dedicate to learning about this method, and I'm confident that after getting to know the method, I will be comfortable using it as my main form of birth control.

I can't thank my subscribers enough for the suggestions they left on my video and the support I've received recently. This was the final push to get me go off of the pill. I have one more week until I start the Lady Comp, and it will be full speed ahead. I've purchased some supplements to help with the hormonal transition, but if you have any feedback or advice, please share! Feel free to post a comment here, or email me at iluvjesse444@me.com. I'll be doing 2 week updates here on my blog, and probably 1 month video updates on my Youtube channel.

  1. I would love some supplement suggestions as I went off birth control years ago and my hormones have never balanced out, which causes ridiculous acne on my chest, shoulders, back and face. I say ridiculous, it could certainly be worse but it's enough to make me incredibly self conscious.

    1. I'm so nervous for that ahh. The ones I bought are: Vitex Fruit, Vitamin B6, Maca Powder, and Dandelion Tea, Raspberry Leaf Tea, Spearmint Tea. From what I've read, they all pretty much excrete excess hormones and normalize the ratio of progesterone to estrogen. Spearmint tea I think is supposed to help with the acne!

    3. Hi ladies!

Brianna, thank you so much for sharing your journey—I watched your 1-month update video, but I had missed this blog post until now!

I've finally gotten up the courage myself to begin the process of going off BC. I've been on it since being diagnosed with PCOS (around 7 years ago) and even though I know it's only treating the symptoms and not the root cause, I just couldn't bring myself to kick it. I tried a few years ago on my own and the side effects were so horrible that I had to start the BC up again.

Now that I'm older and have changed my lifestyle a lot—cleaned up my beauty products, adjusted my diet due to allergies/leaky gut, and began introducing some supplements, I feel that I'm in a much better position to give this a second try. I'm under the care of a naturopathic doctor who will help me and I also have a boyfriend who is ready to take the journey with me, so even on my worst days, he'll be there for me. And, I have all of you guys in the blogging community as well!

Nicole, I'm scared to death of the acne (and extra hair growth common for cysters), but I'm about to start FemRebalance by Vitanica, so I'll let you know how it goes!

  2. Good for you. I got off birth control 3 yrs ago because i got tired of the negative changes my body was going through, even my mood was affected. I am glad I got off it. Looking forward to your updates. I have heard of temp tracking but have not given it a try yet.

  3. Ahh this is amazing! I want to come off the pill as well but there's no way I can risk getting pregnant right now so it's not good timing for me at the minute but I would love to come off it. I've been reading TCOYF too and loving it. I hope it helps with your food restrictions!
