Interview with Sara!

Why did you decide to start your business?
I started making products as a hobby about 10 years ago. I joined the local Public Market and sold some products on the side for years. It wasn't until my children were born that I decided to pursue Rainwater Botanical full time. I feel pretty fortunate most days to be able to work around the needs of my family.

What types of products do you offer? Are any or all of your products vegan?
We offer a nearly full range of bath and body products. Everything from deodorant to soap and skin care. Natural perfume oils and of course our Healing Salve. Every one of our products is vegan except the Healing Salve which contains beeswax.

Which product took the longest to formulate and get right?
The deodorant! For sure!

Which product are you most proud of? Why?
Ugh...I have to pick one? Ha ha, I guess its the Intensive Repair Cream. I think it works well for most skin types and helps a wide range of skin complaints. I get to hear all kinds of success stories and that just brings me joy:)

Which product do you personally use most often?
I use a pretty wide range of my own products daily. Most often I use the Lavender & Shea hand and body butter. Constant hand washing requires and really good cream to keep my hands from drying up.

Which product is a best seller?
Our deodorant.....it sells all over the world. Pretty proud of that;)

What are your thoughts on preservatives? How do you determine which ones you use in your products?
We try and stick with natural preservatives and only when necessary. I'm constantly on the lookout for the latest in natural preservatives. In fact we just found one made from  radishes that is Ecocert approved. We will be switching to it exclusively in the next few months.

What are your thoughts on FD&C dyes?
Unnecessary, at best.

How important is utilizing social media to you?
Very! Its a great way to communicate with customers!

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Spare time?

What is your favorite food?
Salad. Seriously...I love salad and eat it for most meals. I love salad for breakfast.

What is your #1 most listened to song on Itunes/your music player?
I don't really have a most listened to song. I have Pandora on all the time while working and have about 50 different channels. Currently I'm listening to a channel call “I turn my camera on”.

What other skincare/makeup companies do you like?
John Masters Organics, Terra Firma Cosmetic, Aubrey Organics and anyone who tries to keep it natural and ethical.

What is your current skincare routine?
I am trying out an “oil cleansing method” with the hopes of adding it to our line. So far its going well I’m pleased to say. I also use the Troubled Skin Serum and Eye Serum. Followed by mineral makeup and set in place and refreshed during the day with our Nourishing Facial Toner. Once a week I like to use a mask, usually our Dead Sea one but occasionally I use our Pumpkin Facial Mask.

What is the most important thing you want people to know about your company?
Rainwater Botanicals, like most small family run eco-businesses, cares deeply about our customers and our commitment to health of people and planet. For us, this is a way of life.

What is a tip you have for someone interested in making the switch to natural skincare/cosmetics and doesn't know where to start?
Etsy is a great place to start as so many of the shops are committed to natural skin care as well as customer care. The shop keepers on etsy will answer questions and offer advice to help get people started with natural goodness and are very knowledgeable and skilled. Many of the small businesses on Etsy offers samples for next to nothing so you can try it out before investing.
